Following the conduct of the Presidential election on Saturday, 23rd February 2019, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood announced President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the election and issued Certificates of Return to him and his running mate, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo on Wednesday, 27th February 2019. President Buhari scored a total of 15,191,847 votes, winning in 19 States, to defeat his closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who scored a total of 11,262,978 votes and won in 17 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Atiku Abubakar has rejected the results of the Presidential election, which he described as a sham and expressed his intention to challenge it in court.
