4,600 IDPs Vote in Niger State

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Niger State, Prof. Sam Egwu has disclosed that about 4,600 Internally-Displaced Persons (IDPs) voted during the elections on Saturday, 23rd February 2019 in Niger State. The IDPs were accommodated in Kagara and Pandogsri towns, due to the invasion of their ancestral homes in Rafi and Shiroro council areas by armed bandits. Prof. Egwu in his statement said that: “The IDPs who were among the 2,390,350 registered voters in the state, cast their votes in both the Presidential and National Assembly elections. In January 2019, as part of its electoral reforms, INEC released its framework for IDP voting which outlined provisions for legal registration and voting frameworks stipulating the voting rights of IDPs in Nigeria.
