In the past weeks, the State of insecurity in Nigeria has reached an all-time high with Nigeria being at the fore of global media. With news of abductions and bloodshed, there has been a lot global concern for the spate of incidents relating to these events. However, here are some stories that shaped Nigeria’s political landscape in the previous weeks:
1. The Anambra State 2025 Governorship Election held as planned, with Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo re-elected as the Governor of the State.
2. A faction of the PDP obtained a court order to proceed with its Convention, wherein a National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki was elected. This faction clashed with the Samuel Anyanwu faction at the PDP secretariat leading to unprecedented violence.
3. Bayo Onanuga called out Kabiru Turaki over what he described as “High Treason”, as Kabiru Turaki called for foreign intervention over intra-party disputes.
4. Nigeria faces record-high insecurity; as an Army General, Brigadier General Musa Uba is executed by ISWAP, church worshippers abducted in Kwara State and multiple schools raided, with student abducted in Kwara and Kebbi States.
5. The United States President Donald Trump declared Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern”, this preceded the recently held US Congress Public hearing on Nigeria, as a country of particular concern.
6. The Federal High court convicted Nnamdi Kanu, the self-acclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to life imprisonment.
