The spate of massacre by Boko Haram terrorists and bandits seem to have become increasingly rampant as attacks are recorded on a daily basis across several parts of the country. The most recent attack in three villages in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State claimed 51 lives, with several houses set ablaze and foodstuff taken away by the bandits. Several other occupants of the village sustained injuries from the attack. Barely two weeks ago, 21 people were killed in Bakali village in Giwa Local Government Area in the same State. The frequency of these attacks is rather unsettling and may be an indication of the fact that the assailants remain undeterred. Churches have continued to protest the deteriorating security situation in the country, describing the government’s response so far as below average, and calling on President Buhari to be proactive in preventing these attacks. The Catholic Bishops Conference held a protest march in Abuja on Sunday, March 1, on the issue.
