A new acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has been appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari. Assistant Inspector General of Police, (AIG) Adamu Abubakar Mohammed, will serve as the Inspector-General. The outgoing IGP, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, was due for retirement on 3rd January 2019, but the lack of clarity over the situation led to calls for him to proceed into retirement as at when due. Recent weeks have seen concern being expressed by stakeholders, over the leadership of Nigeria’s foremost security agency. The appointment of a new helmsman should serve to reassure the citizenry especially in view of the forthcoming General Elections.
