On 4th June 2021, following extensive consultations with stakeholder on expanding voter access to polling units in Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) established 1,112 new Polling Units in Anambra State. Added to the 4,608 previously existing Polling Units, the total number of Polling Units in Anambra State currently stands at 5,720.
Section 42 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) empowers INEC to establish Polling Units and allot voters to them. However, the Commission decided that to prevent disruptions that may occur on election day if voters are not aware of Polling Units to which they are assigned, voters will be allowed to choose the Polling Units at which they would vote. The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) provided an opportunity for voters to make this choice. Three options for doing this were made available to voters as follows
