The Guardian NewspaperWednesday, 21st August 2019Kogi aspirants kick, insist on open, transparent primaries"Dissatisfied by their disqualification for the November 16, 2019 gubernatorial election by the All Progressives Congress (APC), a coalition of the 12 aggrieved aspirants has faulted the party’s decision, insisting on inclusive, direct and transparent primaries. Spokesperson of the coalition, Mr. Babatunde Irukera, yesterday told journalists that they were unjustly disqualified to pave way for Governor Yahaya Bello to emerge unopposed as standard-bearer of the party.
This is just as a former president of the National Association of Kogi State Students, (NAKOSS), Suleiman Mazai Farouq, said the Bello administration has carried out reforms in the state to warrant reelection.
However, the disqualified aspirants called on Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to reverse their exclusion by the screening committee, led by Senator Hope Uzodinma, and allow the entire 16 aspirants that picked the N22.5 million worth nomination and expression of interest forms vie for the ticket.

The Guardian NewspaperWednesday, 21st August 2019PDP suspends former Senator, mother, 11 others over anti-party activities"Former Nigerian Senator Samuel Anyanwu, his mother Virginia Anyanwu and 11 other ward officials have been suspended indefinitely by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State.

The Guardian NewspaperWednesday, 21st August 2019Stakeholders kick over fears of insecurity, candidate imposition, delegates’ list ahead of Bayelsa polls"A member of Bayelsa State PDP has alleged to The Guardian that one of the strategies opposition may use winning the Bayelsa election is to plant a ‘surrogate’ as PDP gubernatorial candidate through a distorted primary by using the incumbent who has been accused of having illicit romance with some APC leaders.
however, beyond the above insinuations, there are also fears of security breaches that could lead to candidate imposition. AlthoughGovernor Dickson may have given his word that there would be a level playing field ahead of the primaries to elect the flag-bearer, it is still unclear the shape of things to come. All the aspirants jostling for PDP ticket recently submitted themselves for screening in Abuja.
Those cleared after the Abuja screening would slug it out on September 3, 2019 at the party’s primary, scheduled to hold in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State Capital. There are, however, a groundswell of calls that the primary be moved to a neutral ground, preferably Abuja, to ensure the event is held under secure atmosphere. Another reason is so all aspirants are given a level playing field."

The Guardian NewspaperWednesday, 21st August 2019PDP cautions against vote buying in Bayelsa, Kogi states"The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned the Federal Government against engaging in vote buying in Bayelsa and Kogi states, as the gubernatorial elections draw nearer.
It also declared that it would not be stampeded into rushing the conduct of its primaries in both states.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, stated at a media briefing in Abuja yesterday that in the case of Bayelsa, “the process is on and the party has not reached any conclusion in respect of the issues involved. The party is still holding meetings in that respect.
He stated that “It is misplaced for anybody or group of persons to say that the party has taken a decision and allege that the National Chairman had played a role in whatever form in the process.
“We have constituted committees that will conduct the election to produce the three ad-hoc delegates from each ward. And I can say that the governors, who chaired those committees, did well and as such, other processes will follow.”
