Fire burns Unclaimed PVCs in Abia INEC Office

Voters’ Register and 319 uncollected Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) were allegedly set ablaze in the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State, by suspected hoodlums. The fire was said to have started in the early hours of Sunday, 3rd February 2019. Confirming that only a copy of the Voters’ Register and the PVCs were affected by the fire, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the State, Joseph Iloh, added that there is still a list of registered voters at the Commission’s Headquarters in the State capital, Umuahia. The Police has given assurances that it will launch an investigation into the matter and bring the culprits to book.
