IGP deploys 7 DIGs, 10 AIGs and 277 CPs for Election Duty

Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu has deployed 7 Deputy Inspectors General of Police to the six Geo-Political zones of the country. Ten (10) Assistant Inspector Generals have also been deployed to the Zonal Commands and 277 Commissioners of Police to all 36 State Commands and the FCT to support the Commissioners in the Commands. According to Police Spokesman, Frank Mba, some Local Government Areas in Benue, Imo, Taraba and Plateau will have one Police Commissioner each to co-ordinate security affairs. However, Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo and Sokoto States have new Commissioners posted specifically for the purpose of the elections. Mba explained that the deployment is aimed at providing adequate security for the elections and proper supervision of all security personnel on election duty.  IGP Adamu has also given assurances that the Nigeria Police will remain civil, professional and apolitical in the discharge of election duties.
