On Monday, 25th March 2019, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Bala Mohammed of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the Governorship election in Bauchi State. It will be recalled that prior to the supplementary Governorship election in the State, the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja ordered that parties in a suit before it, maintain status quo pending the determination of the suit, which was instituted by the Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Party (APC) in Bauchi State, Governor Mohammed Abubakar. This order encroached on INEC’s power to declare a winner after the supplementary Governorship election that held in the State on 23rd March 2019, as it was prevented from collating the election results in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of the State. However, on Monday, 25th March 2019, the order was lifted, allowing INEC to collate the said results on the same day and subsequently declare a winner.
