The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday, 26th March 2019 suspended the presentation of Certificates of Return to winners of the Zamfara State Governorship and House of Assembly elections, scheduled for Wednesday, 27th January 2019. The Commission took this decision following a judgment of the Court of Appeal sitting in Sokoto, delivered on Monday, 25th March 2019, which overturned a Zamfara State High Court decision that had allowed a faction of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State to field candidates for the Governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections. Some members of the party in the State, including the Governor-elect, Muhktar Shehu have expressed intentions to challenge the decision at the Supreme Court.
