The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in a Press Briefing on Thursday, 21st February, 2019 made known the line up of activities for the conclusion of elections in Rivers State. It revealed among other things that collation of Rivers State election results will hold between 2nd and 5th April, 2019, while supplementary elections will hold on 13th April 2019, if the need arises. Election results are to be declared between 13th and 15th April. It has scheduled 19th April for issuance of Certificate of Return to winners of the elections. Also, revalidation of election observers will be carried out simultaneously in Abuja and Rivers State between 25th and 31st March 2019. INEC had earlier considered the report of the six-man Fact-Finding Committee led by INEC National Commissioner, Prof. Anthonia Okoosi-Simbine, set up to assess the widespread disruption of collation of election results. From a statement released by the Commission, Governorship and House of Assembly elections took place in most Polling Units and results were announced. Also, the results of 17 out of 23 Local Government Areas are available and in safe custody. In light of these, INEC is committed to completing the collation process where results have been announced and engage security agencies and the Inter-Consultative Committee at national and State levels, respectively to ensure a conducive environment for the completion of the elections.
On Wednesday, 20th March 2019, the Federal High Court in Abuja rejected an application brought before the Court by the African Action Congress (AAC) and its Rivers State Governorship Candidate, Biokpomabo Awara, seeking that INEC suspend the proposed conclusion of the Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the State.
