The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reorganised its National Working Committees in preparation for the 2019 General Elections.
Five of INEC’s fifteen Committees were affected in the reorganisation.
In a statement, the Committee gave the names of the five Committees as follows:
1. Information and Voter Education Committee now headed by Barrister Festus Okoye;
2. Board of the Electoral Institute now headed by Chief Solomon Adedeji Soyebi;
3. Planning, Monitoring and Strategy now headed by Dr. Mohammed Mustafa Lecky;
4. Health and Welfare now headed by Mrs. Amina Bala Zakari and
5. Electoral Operations and Logistics now headed by Prof. Okechukwu Ibeano
It is expected that the reorganisation of the Committees will help INEC prepare to conduct credible elections in 2019. Concerns have been raised about partisanship in the Commission. In 2017, the Southern Ijaw Peoples Assembly had raised the alarm of partisanship citiing certain INEC Commissioners working with the ruling party.
It will appear that INEC is seeking to douse some of these concerns by the reorganisation of its Committees. The reorganisation of the Committees will boost the confidence the electorate at large have on INEC.
