The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday, 13th April 2019 concluded elections in Rivers State after announcing Candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) winners of the four remaining State Assembly House seats. Rivers State had been embroiled in political crisis since the beginning of the 2019 General elections. The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Police deployed 3,066 personnel for the elections, complemented by other security agencies to ensure peaceful conduct of the elections. The elections were reported to have been peaceful with some voters arriving at the Polling Units before 8am and prompt arrival of election officials and materials. This is a positive turn of events from the elections conducted in these areas on 9th March 2019, alongside the Governorship elections. They had been declared inconclusive in line with the margin of lead principle, owing to acts that disrupted the exercise in some Polling Units, and non-deployment of electoral officials and materials in Abua/Odua and Gokana Constituencies, where elections did not hold at all.
