The voting method to be adopted for the primaries of the APC for the Kogi State Governorship has continued to generate tension among the governorship aspirants even after announcing the adoption of indirect primaries. With the primaries scheduled to hold on Thursday, 29th August 2019, members of the party are still at loggerheads over the method for the emergence of its Governorship election candidate. Following prior agitations on the method to adopt for the primaries, the APC National Working Committee (NWC) on Saturday, 7th July 2019 announced that the party would be conducting indirect primaries, to choose its candidate for the November 16 Governorship election. However, objections to this decision and calls for its reversal, amid claims that the party did not consult with all stakeholders, indicate that the party members are not in consensus with regard to the upcoming primaries. Some of the aggrieved party members have warned that negative consequences are likely to arise from the proposed indirect primaries and may jeopardise the party’s chance of retaining the State, considering the fate that befell the party in Zamfara State following the 2019 General elections, where the Supreme Court decided that no primary was conducted, which meant that the party did not produce any candidate for elections that held in that State.
