The Election Petition Tribunal sitting over the Osun State Governorship election that held in September 2018 has declared Senator Ademola Adeleke of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the polls. The petition filed by PDP and Senator Adeleke was upheld on the ground that the petitioners successfully proved substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2010, in the conduct of supplementary elections in seven polling units in the State. In its judgment delivered on Friday, 22nd March 2019, the Tribunal held that Senator Adeleke scored the lawful majority of votes cast at the election of 22nd September 2019. It also held that the supplementary Governorship election was null and void, as well as the declaration and return of the incumbent Governor, Gboyega Oyetola. The Tribunal ordered that the Certificate of Return issued to Governor Oyetola be withdrawn and a fresh one issued to Senator Adeleke. Governor Oyetola has however expressed his intention to challenge the decision.
