The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reminded Nigeria’s political parties of the deadline to submit list of candidates arising from the partiy primaries.
In a statement on Thursday, 11th October 2018, INEC said, of the 89 political parties who indicated to INEC an intention to conduct primaries, none has submitted the forms CF002 and CF001. According to INEC, Form CF002 contains the list of candidates sponsored by political parties for election, while Form CF001 has information about their personal details. INEC reiterated the details for submission of both forms as follows:
1. Presidential and National Assembly (Thursday, October 18, 2018).
2. Governorship and State Houses of Assembly (Friday, November 2, 2018).
INEC has stated that the dates it has set for the deadline of elections are sacrosanct and cannot be shifted for the benefits of any party at all. Only a few days ago, INEC had written to the leadership of a political party in Zamfara State, informing it that it will not be allowed to contest elections to offices of State House of Assembly, national Assembly and governorship, on account of its failure to organize primaries as stipulated in INEC’s guidelines.
