Following criticisms of the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, that election campaigns were suspended until votes on February 23rd, the Commission reversed itself, agreeing that campaigns could go on till 24 hours ahead of the elections. Political parties are now free to continue campaigns. The importance of this of course, is that continuing campaigns will help encourage voter turn-out. With voters angry about INEC’s postponement of the elections, voter apathy could become a challenge for the elections on the new dates.
