The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted the Osun State Governorship Election on Saturday, 16th July 2022 in the 30 Local Government Areas of the State.
The Governorship election was generally peaceful as voters conducted themselves in a civil manner within and outside the polling units on election day.
Osun State was created in 1991 out of the old Oyo State, and derived its name from the popular Osun River. The State shares boundary with Kwara State to the north, Ekiti and Ondo States to the east, Ogun State to the south and Oyo State to the west.
Osun State has a landmass of 14,875 sq.km and a population of 3,423,535 (Population Census 2006, National Population Commission) comprising people of the Yoruba sub-ethnic groups of Ijesha, Oyo, Ife, Igbomina and Ibolo, who speak the general Yoruba language with little variations in accent across communities and towns.
