Issued in Abuja: Monday, 14th November 2022
The Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room (Situation Room) calls on all registered voters to take advantage of the ongoing display of voters’ register by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that their particulars are correct.
INEC commenced the Display of Voters’ Register exercise on Saturday, 12th November 2022 to end on Friday, 18th November 2022.
The exercise provides a window for registered voters to make claims for correction of their names or information, lay complaints concerning any name omitted or missing from the register and for citizens to raise objections against the name of any person who is not qualified to be a voter or who is no longer alive (dead). This is in line with the provision in section 19(1) of the Electoral Act 2022.
Citizens are to visit Ward centres and headquarters of Local Government and Area Councils for physical verification and fill out the relevant form(s) or online via www.inecnigeria.org/display_register and follow the process to click on a name on the register to “make a claim” or raise an objection.
A reliable register of voters is a prerequisite for credible elections. Therefore, Situation Room hopes that this will help INEC solve the problem of omission of names of duly registered voters from the roll and other issues that have come up on election day previously. This in turn will give more acceptability to the voters’ register.
