On Monday, 14th October 2019, Situation Room held a Geo-Political Zonal meeting in Abuja with Civil Society Organisations from all six Geo-Political Zones of Nigeria in attendance. The theme of the meeting was ‘Advocacy for Improved Governance at the State and Local Government Levels’, a conversation that has become imperative following the conclusion of the 2019 general elections and the need for Civil Society to shift focus to demanding accountability and transparency from government at all levels. The discourse focused on improving the shrinking civic space at State and Local Government levels; advocacy for inclusive budget and legislative processes at the State level; improved inclusivity of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and women in the electoral process; rebuilding voters’ confidence in the electoral process and acting to improve social accountability.
