Situation Room prepares Observers for Bayelsa and Kogi Governorships

As part of its preparations for the November 16 Governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi States, Situation Room has conducted training sessions for Election observers in the two States. The training of observers in Kogi State took place in Lokoja on Wednesday, 25th September 2019, while the training of observers in Bayelsa State was held on Wednesday, 18th September 2019 in Yenagoa. The participants who will be stationed across all the Local Government Areas of each of the States, were trained on INEC’s Guidelines and Regulations, incident reporting on Election day, as well as how to use the deployment and observation checklist. Prior to the training sessions, Situation Room held Strategy meetings in the two States, with a view to promoting peace messaging ahead of the elections. The strategy meeting saw Civil Society groups domiciled in the two States highlighting flashpoints and possible sources of conflict that may interfere with the elections, as well as contributing to peace messages to be disseminated in the States, to achieve a violence-free election.
