Following the judgment of the Supreme Court on the appeal of the Presidential Election Petition tribunal judgment, the Supreme Court on Friday, 15th November 2019 gave reasons for its judgment delivered on Wednesday, 30th October 2019. Justice John Okoro, who read the lead judgment stated that the appeal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar was centred on two issues: the qualification of President Muhammadu Buhari and non-compliance with the Electoral laws. The court upheld that the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal was in order when it declared that President Buhari was eminently qualified to contest the election, having proved that he possessed the minimum academic qualification of secondary school education, the exhibits of which the appellants failed to prove were forged. The court further stated that the data from a server on which the appellants relied to prove the allegations of irregularities and non-compliance with the electoral laws, was not from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and could not be relied upon.
