The Zamfara State House of Assembly on Tuesday, 26th November 2019, repealed the law that provided for the payment of pensions and other allowances to former Governors, Deputy Governors, as well as former Speakers and their deputies. Presenting the bill to repeal the said law, the House Leader, Faruk Dosara urged his colleagues to support the repeal of the law, as payments to former political leaders of the State to the tune of over N700 million annually was detrimental to civil servants in the State who were yet to receive their entitlements. According to Mustapha Jafaru Kaura, the Spokesman of the State Assembly, the repeal of the law implies that past leaders of the State will be limited to allowances prescribed by the National Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
The repeal came shortly after the former Governor of the State, Abdulaziz Yari, wrote a letter to the State Govenor, Bello Matawalle, requesting his N10 million monthly allowance, which had not been paid for some time, according to the letter.
